Abbotsford - Clarence "Bud" Nelson, 79, of the town of Mayville, Abbotsford, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.
Funeral services for Bud will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2001 at the Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford, Wis. Rev. Lauren Ley, Pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Curtiss, will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Abbotsford Public Cemetery.
Visitation with family and friends will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday, both at the funeral home.
Clarence Melvin Nelson was born Dec. 4, 1921, on the family farm in the town of Mayville, the son of Albert and Irene (nee Thompson) Nelson. He was a 1939 graduate of Abbotsford, Wis. High School and continued his education at Stevens Point Teacher’s College until returning to the family farm. Bud and the former Mary Thompson were united in marriage on June 5, 1952, in Curtiss, Wis. The couple farmed the family farm until retirement.
Bud was a talented musician, having been a part of several local bands, including many years with Email and his band. Bud enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cribbage and bowling.
Bud was a member and first president of the Abbotsford Lions Club, the Abbotsford Sportsman Church; he served on the Church Council of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and was a member of the Abbotsford School Board. He regularly attended the high school athletic events. He enjoyed spending time with his family, wife, children and grandchildren.
Bud will be dearly missed by his wife of 49 years, Mary Nelson of Abbotsford; four daughters, Karen (Eric) Eckstrum of McHenry, Ill., Kathryn Nelson of Baldwin, March (Paul) Kramas of Mosinee and Lori (Gary) Koehmstedt of Plover; two sons, Donald (Leslie) Nelson of La Crosse and Dale (Judy) Nelson of Marshfield; 13 grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Thieme of Colby. He is survived by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be given in his name to the Marshfield Medical Research Foundation.
