Thistle, Harriet (8 NOV 1821 - 18 DEC 1895)
Died, at her home in this city (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.), Wednesday night, Dec. 18th, 1895, of old age and general debility, Mrs. Harriet Thistle, in the 75th year of her age.
Harriet Butt was born at Wester Bay, Newfoundland, Nov. 8th, 1821; and was united in marriage with John F. Thistle, May 17th, 1863, being his second wife; June 20th, 1875, the family left Newfoundland and July 20th of the same year located at Arlington, Columbia Co., Wis., where they resided until Dec. 1886, when they came to this place, arriving here on the 16th, and have since made their home here, the aged couple living the most of the time alone.
Grandma Thistle, as she was familiarly called by everybody, was a kind hearted, gentle, Christian lady, beloved by all who knew her, and her very sudden death was a surprise and shock to the entire community, as she had not been sick at all, but on the other hand, was feeling unusually well the day of her death. She was taken suddenly ill in the night and died within a half hour.
At the early age of 16 years she united with the M. E. Church, of which she has been a consistent member ever since. The funeral occurred at the M. E. Church, Saturday afternoon, and the remains interred in Colby Cemetery, Rev. C. H. Chase officiating.
