Funeral Services Held for Aged Polish Settler
Last rites were held at St. Hedwig's Church, Nov. 20th for Mrs. Mary Strzck, who passed away at her home here of old age infirmities on Thursday, Nov. 16, 1944. She reached the age of 83 years, 6 months and 18 days.
Mary Polnaszek was born in Poland on April 28, 1861. She was married there in 1879 to John Strzck who passed away March 10, 1911. She came to America in the year 1889 with her husband and located on a farm in the Town of Withee, it being said that they were the first Polish settlers in that Township. She resided on the home farm continuously until the time of death. She was the mother of twelve children, three daughters, Veronica, Frances Strzok and Mrs. Bernice Kinast having preceded her in death.
Surviving are six sons, Stanley and Charlie of Detroit, Mich., Peer of Minneapolis, Michael and Nick of Gilman, and Joseph of Thorp; three daughters, Mrs. Anna Panek and Mrs. Peter Piwoni, of Thorp. Mrs. Charlie Sapa of Milwaukee, one sister, Mr. Antoinette Wilaszek, of Buffalo, NY, forty-seven grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren.
A requiem mass was conducted at 10:00 o'clock in the morning by Rev. Francis Piekarski, local pastor, Rev. W. Kolman, of Gilman.
The body was laid to rest in the St. Hedwig cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Andrew and Mike Strzok, John Blacer, Jos. Moczarny, Mike Kryzanski and John Wnek.
