Neillsville American Legion Aux. Emergency Fundraiser (2024)
Part of the American Legion Auxiliary mission is to “embrace the lives of our veterans, military and their families both at home and abroad.”
In step with this, the National Auxiliary has established an emergency fund where members help members in crisis.
“Such a crisis raised its ugly head over the last month in the south/southeastern part of the United States,” the Neillsville American Legion Auxiliary said. “Thousands of veterans’ homes were severely damaged as a result of recent storms. These veterans are in crisis and need our help.”
The Neillsville Auxiliary has started a fundraiser from now until Nov. 18. Donation buckets are set out at the American Legion Hall on Boon Avenue for contributions. The Legion is open every Tuesday through Thursday afternoons and Friday, 4 p.m. to closing.
They are also open during special events throughout the month. All money raised from these donation buckets will be sent to the Auxiliary Emergency Fund for distribution.
If an individual or organization would like to mail donations to the Auxiliary, send to American Legion Auxiliary, 6 Boon Blvd., Neillsville, WI 54456.

Hansen, Beatrice Mae (16 September 1925 – 26 September 2024)
Beatrice Mae (Barrett) Hansen, 99, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 26, 2024, at Stoney River Memory Care in Marshfield.
She was born on September 16, 1925, the eighth of nine children (six girls and three boys) born to Lola Lillian (Cushman) Barrett and James Byron Barrett of rural Owen. Beatie married Vern Hansen, a handsome marine, on August 21, 1948. Vernie and Beatie had two children, Karen and Janet. Beatie was a rural, one room school teacher during the early years of her marriage and later worked for a number of years at Teledyne Post in Owen. Her hobbies included fishing, hunting, reading, bragging about her grandchildren and, after retirement, golf. Golfing was her passion and when she hit a hole in one at the age of 82, she was over the moon.
Bea was an active member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee. She especially enjoyed the visiting that took place at a local café after the service. Bea was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was involved with her local American Legion Auxiliary. Her ability to sell poppies was legendary. She never took “no” for an answer.
Vernie, the love of her life, passed in 1999 and Beatrice lived independently and actively by herself until the age of 96. Beatie was preceded in death by her parents, Lola and Byron, her brothers Rolond, Bryce and Jim and her sisters, Ivis, Opal, Juanita, Mary and Barbara. She is survived by daughter, Karen (Steven) Bade, daughter Janet (Russell) Schmitt, four grandchildren, Byron, Amanda, Brittany and Dylan, and one great granddaughter, Sloane; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place Saturday, November 9 at 11:00 a.m., following 10:30 visitation, at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee. After the service there will be a gathering of friends and family at Meadowview Golf Course, Owen.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Stoney River Memory Care of Marshfield and to Heartland Hospice. The kindness, support, care and compassion given to Beatrice was amazing and comforting not only for Bea but her family as well.
Bea’s family expresses a heartfelt thank you to Pastor Elizabeth Bier of Nazareth Lutheran Church for her council and guidance. Bea’s Nazareth Family was very important to her.
A sincere thank you from the family to Meadowview Golf Course for their help in coordinating Bea’s send off. It was her express wish that her family and friends gather at Meadowview to say good bye.
Thanks also to Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home for their help and guidance through this difficult time. Their patience and experience was a great help.
In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation to Heartland Hospice, 3233A Business Park Drive #203, Stevens Point, WI 54482
