Robert "Bob" W. Wachtl, 95, Wausau, died Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

The fourth born of seventeen children, Bob was born December 23, 1916 in the town of Emmet, son of the late John and Henrietta (Bradley) Wachtl. On June 20, 1942 he married Evelyn Sabrowsky in Thorp.

Bob served his country in the United States Air Force from 1940-1945 stationed in the US, Casablanca and French Morocco. He was a member of both the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post No. 10, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post No. 388, Wausau. He worked for Production Credit Association in Wausau for 33 years. He was a charter member of the Church of St. Anne, Wausau and past Grand Knight of the George Schreier Council No. 1069 Third Degree Knights of Columbus. He also served as past Faithful Navigator and honor guard member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Pere Rene Menard General Assembly. Bob enjoyed Square dancing with Evelyn, and was a member of the American Legion Senior Golf League and the KC Bowling League from 1955 to 2000. Other interests include playing cribbage, poker and sheepshead, as well as being an avid Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers fan.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Evelyn, Wausau; children, Robert Jr. (Mickey) Wachtl, Northfield, Ohio, Susan (James) Becker, Watertown, and Richard (Mary Noltemeyer) Wachtl, Wausau; grandchildren, Robert (Marycel) Wachtl, Northfield, Sean (Rachel) Becker, Delafield, Jill (Anthony) Rosenthal, Forest Lake, Minnesota, Zach (Liz) Wachtl, Denver, Colorado, and Kelly Wachtl (Matt Witzeling), Portland, Oregon; great-grandchildren, Tatsuya, Kenichi, and Hanamaria Wachtl, Ella and A.J. Rosenthal, two more great-grandchildren are expected in October; brother, Norman (Jane) Wachtl, Alabama; sisters, Grace (Bill) Zenner, California, Margaret Sabo, Arizona, Harriet (George) Reinicke, Harshaw, and Helen (Forrest) Withrow, Delaware; sisters-in-law, Jean Wachtl, Milwaukee, Jeanne Wachtl, Indiana, Molly Wachtl, Illinois, and Joan Wachtl, Milwaukee, many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents Bob was preceded in death by brothers Eugene, Donald, Jerry, Allen, Roger and Maurice and a sister, Eunice.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.

Evelyn M. (Sabrowsky) Wachtl made her journey to the company of the Angels on Tuesday 11-8 -2016.

She was born to Louis J. and Clara (Sousek) Sabrowsky on 6-10-1919 in Neosho, WI. On 6-20-1942 Evelyn married Robert W. Wachtl at St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Thorpe, WI. She was a graduate of Thorp High School and Marathon Co. Normal School.

Evelyn was a teacher and first taught in a one room school house in Unity, WI and later in Pine Island, MN. Later still, she taught at the State Grade School in Stanley, WI. Evelyn was the first lay teacher at St. Anne's Catholic School in Wausau, WI where she taught from when the school first opened in 1951 until she retired in 1975. She continued to volunteer at St. Anne's for another 11 years because "I love teaching and I love children". She and her husband Bob were charter members of St. Anne's Parish. After Bob's passing in 2012, Evelyn came to reside at the Highland House in Waterloo, WI. There she was the recipient of the wonderful and loving care of the staff until the time of her death on Tuesday. Memorials, if desired, will be forwarded to dementia research.

Evelyn is survived by her children Robert W. (Mickey) Wachtl, Jr., Northfield Center, OH, Susan M. (James) Becker, Watertown, WI, and Richard C. (Mary Noltemeyer) Wachtl, Wausau, WI. She is further survived 5 grandchildren: Robert J. (Marycel) Wachtl, Sean (Rachel) Becker, Jill (Tony) Rosenthal, Zach (Liz) Wachtl, Kelly (Matt Witzeling) Wachtl and 8 great-grandchildren: Tatsuya, Ken, Hanamaria, Ella, Anthony, Jacob, Jaxyn and Evelyn. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday November 12, 2016 at St. Henry Catholic Church Watertown, WI with Fr. Patrick Wendler presiding. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the mass. Entombment will be on Monday, November 14, 2016 at 12:00 PM at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Wausau, WI.
