Hass, Lena (28 JUL 1897)
Married, at the home of the bride’s sister, Mrs. August Rieder in Madison, Wis., Wednesday, July 28th, 1897, Mr. Ira L. Cole of Colby, Clark Co., and Miss Lena Hass of Madison, Rev. Birkholder officiating.
The ceremony was witnessed by a number of the friends of the bride from Milwaukee, Whitewater and other points. After the ceremony the party partook of a wedding dinner and at 12:45 p.m. too the train for Colby, via Portage and Stevens Point, and arrived here 10:30 a.m., last Thursday morning.
A. W. Moerke, who is now at Fond du Lac, was to have officiated as best man, but was delayed and did not reach Madison until after the ceremony, and in fact, barely in time to join the happy couple on their homeward trip, which he did and accompanied them as far as Stevens Point.
Ira says when they reached Portage they gathered from their trunks a basket full, more or less, of treasures in the way of old foot gear, quaintly inscribed cards, ets., which they have carefully preserved.
Mrs. Cole is, of course, a stranger to the people here, but Ira has grown up here; was a student in our public schools; a graduate of the high school and has taught for several years. He has hosts of friends who will join the Phonograph in a hearty welcome to the bride and in extending best wishes to both for their future happiness and prosperity.
