Tesmer, Henry (18 AUG 1880 - 4 DEC 1899)

Henry Tesmer, while working in Tuttle’s camp, Monday morning, was struck and almost instantly killed by a falling tree.

When the sawyers gave the cry of "timber", to notify the other workmen that a tree was to fall, and give them time to get out of the way of it, Henry jumped onto a log well out of range, as he and the others supposed, but the falling tree struck a standing tree from which it was thrown with great force directly toward Henry and before he could get out of the way or hardly move the tree had caught him, crushing his skull so badly and otherwise injuring him that he lived but a short time. As soon as the accident occurred one of the men jumped onto a horse and came to the city after Dr. Freeman, but of course life was extinct before the man reached the city (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.).

Henry was about 19 years of age, the third son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Tesmer, of this city. He was a young man of exceptionally good character, industrious and honest, and was a great favorite among his companions, all of whom deplore his sudden and tragic death.

The funeral was held yesterday afternoon from Zion’s Church and was largely attended, Rev. A. Kuring officiating.
