Laabs, Emil A. (14 Oct. 1878 - 1966)

Colby - Emil A. Laabs, 87, Colby, died at 12:30 a.m. Sunday in St. Joseph’s Hospital at Marshfield.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Church of Christ in Colby with the Rev. Kenneth Dix officiating. Burial will be made in Colby Memorial Cemetery.

The body will repose at the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby from noon Tuesday until time of services.

Mr. Laabs was born Oct. 14, 1878, in the town of Green Grove, Clark County. His marriage to Lulu Lehman, who preceded him in death in February, 1957, took place June 16, 1909, at New London.

After their marriage, Mr. Laabs operated cheese factories in Curtiss, Longwood, and Dorchester areas until his retirement in 1944, when they moved to Colby.

Mr. Laabs had served as director of the Withee Bank, and at the time of his death was director of the Dorchester Bank.

Survivors are a son, Norbert, Dorchester; three daughters, Mrs. Harold (Fern) Casper, Marshfield; Mrs. Harold (Olive) Klessig, Colby; and Mrs. Albert (Elvera) Schultz, Curtiss, two brothers, Arthur Laabs, Neillsville; and Ferdinand Laabs, Pocatello, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister.
