Becker, Mr. & Mrs. Otto (50th - Sept. 5, 1978)

Mr. and Mrs. Otto Becker of 406 W. Bjornstad St., Owen, who will be married 50 years Tuesday, were honored Saturday with a golden wedding anniversary celebration at Meadowview Country Club, Owen, Wis.

More than 150 relatives and friends attended the event which included a dinner, open house and evening dance. The Becker’s son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Otto L. Becker, Owen, gave his parents a corsage and boutonniere, also an anniversary cake, and the honored couple’s best man and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Schuette, came from Kaukauna to join in the celebration.

The Rev. Douglas Groenewold of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Withee, offered prayer. Among those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Milsl and Mr. and Mrs. Arlyn Mills of the Clark County Health Care Center where the Beckers worked for many years. Since their retirement they continue to help out at the center when needed.

The Beckers, who were married at Trinity Lutheran parsonage in Greenwood, farmed in the South Green Grove area for 25 years before moving into Owen in 1953.

Both were born in Clark County, he in the town of Beaver where they later farmed, and she, the former Gertie Wittlinger, in Loyal.

Beside their only son they have two grandchildren.

Hobbies include fishing, hunting and travel.

The Otto Beckers, who will have been married 50 years on September 5th, 1978, were honored on Saturday, August 26th, 1978 with a Golden Wedding Anniversary Celebration held at the Meadowview Country Club, Owen, Wis.

Over 150 relatives and friends attended the anniversary celebration which included dinner in the afternoon and then an "Open House" at the Club from 8 to 12 p.m. The Emil Dallenbach Band provided music for dancing and listening during the evening. The celebration also noted the birthday of their son.

The Becker’s son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Otto L. Becker Jr., from Owen, presented the couple with flower, corsages and the anniversary wedding cake. The couple’s best man and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Schuette of Kaukauna, Wisconsin were there to join in the celebration.

Special guests included Rev. Douglas Groenewold of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Withee, who gave the prayer, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Mills, and Mr. and Mrs. Arlyn Mills of the Health Care Center where the Beckers worked for many years, and relatives and guests from Idaho Falls, Idaho, Alabama, Atlanta, Georgia, Minnesota, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Waukesha, Hurbtas, Loy7al, Greenwood, Atwood, New London, Owen, Withee, Unity, Colby, Abbotsford, and the Green Grove Area.

Mr. and Mrs. Otto Becker were married on September 5, 1928 at the Trinity Lutheran parsonage in Greenwood, the Rev. George Heilman, who was also pastor of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in South Green Grove near where the Beckers lived and farmed for 25 years, before they moved into Owen in 1953.

Both were born in Clark County, Mr. Becker in Beaver Township where his folks farmed and where they later farmed, Mrs. Becker born Gertie Wittlinger in Loyal. They have one son, Otto Jr. who worked at Badger Shooters in Owen, and two grandchildren, Chris, age 14, and a freshman at O-W, and Beth, age 8, in the third grade.

Both Otto and Gertie Becker worked at the Clark County Health Care Center for many years until retirement, and still help out as substitutes every once in a while. In addition to that they have hobbies of fishing, hunting and traveling, having spent time in Florida, Canada and out West.
