Faulks, Arla M. (20 MAY 1935)
A very pretty wedding was solemnized Monday, May 20, when Miss Arla Mae Faulks of Marshfield was united in marriage to Mr. James C. Downs of West McHenry, Illinois. The wedding took place at the home of Mrs. P. J. Faulks, step-mother of the bride, near Marshfield, at 11 o’clock A. M., the Rev. John Birrell of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Marshfield performing the ceremony.
Mendelssohn’s Wedding March was played by the bride’s aunt, Miss Elma Prior, and to its lovely strains the bridal party appeared among the waiting friends and paused beneath the bridal arch. The bride was attended by Miss Dorothy Faulks, her sister, and the groom by his brother, Mr. Jack Downs. The bride was simply but charmingly dressed in white, and the bridesmaid in delicate light blue. Both carried bouquets of pink and white snapdragons, carnations, and bride’s roses, mingled with ferns.
After the ceremony a delicious dinner was served to about thirty-five relatives and near friends.
Following the repast, the gentlemen guests contributed to the joy of the occasion by arranging a most unusual impromptu band, and demonstrating their ability as entertainers.
Many lovely and useful gifts were received from the guests present and other relatives and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Downs kept the course of their wedding trip a mystery, but they wish all to know that their final destination will be West McHenry, Illinois, where they will soon be at home to their many friends.
Mr. Downs is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Downs of West McHenry, and is in business with his father in that city. He is highly spoken of by his acquaintances in Loyal. Mrs. Downs is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Faulks, both of whom are deceased. Mrs.. Faulks, formerly Miss Ethel Prior, lived in Loyal until she married and moved to their home near Marshfield. Arla Mae has often visited her relatives here and made friends among us who esteem her highly. Our congratulations and best wishes go with Mr. and Mrs. Downs in their new home life.
