James H. Smith, who last week shot and seriously wounded Roy Loney because he though Roy was too popular with the ladies of the house, appeared before Judge Firnstahl Friday afternoon accompanied by his attorney, E. W. Crosby, and Deputy Sheriff Kaudy, and waived his examination. The Judge told him to give a bond for $2,000 or go to jail until the circuit court convened, and he decided to go. Kaudy delivered him to Sheriff Dwyer at Neillsville Saturday.

James Smith Shoots Roy Loney

Jealousy Caused the Rash Act

Just before going to press word was received here that James Smith had shot and probably fatally wounded Roy Loney at a late hour Wednesday night.

Smith is working the P. Harry farm in the town of Colby and employed Loney as a farm hand.

In a jealous rage Smith siexed (seized) his rifle and deliberately fired at Joney, the ball passing through his body from shoulder to shoulder.

He (Smith) then went to Colby and surrendered to deputy sheriff, John Kaudy.

Both parties are well known here Smith having resided here most of his life.
