Joseph was born in Deposit, Broom Co., New York.  His parents, Patrick and Mary (Murnay) McCann, were natives of Ireland.  Susannah "Susie" was the daughter of Eugene D. and Susannah "Susan" (Ellis) Hammond.  Eugene and Susannah were married, at the residence of John C. Meddaugh, in the tow n of Sherwood Forest, Clark County, by W. N. Ladd, Justice of the Peace, B. D. Hammond.  Both of them were residents of Sherwood Forest, Clark Co., Wis. at the time.

Joseph died in July, 1935.
