Phillips, Lewis Edward (30 June 18871 - 11 Jan. 1935)

Lewis Edward Phillips was born in Bear Creek, Wis., June 30, 1871. He lived at home with his parents, Martin and Philena (Packard) Phillips and his nine sisters and brothers until he was about 18 years of age, when he went to Iowa Falls, Iowa.

On Dec. 7, 1892, he was married to Josephine Noble. To them were born five children, the youngest, Rozella died in infancy. In 1898, Mr. Phillips moved with his family to Waterloo, Ia., where he an engineer of the Illinois Central Railway for about 16 years. In 1911, they came to Clark County, Wis., where he has since lived on a farm in the township of Hendren.

He was recovering from a short illness when he was taken suddenly with a heart attack and passed away on Jan. 11, 1935. Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Emma Martin and Alice, of Madison, Wis., two sons, David and Leavitt and one daughter-in-law, Viola, at home, and six grandchildren. There are two brothers, his twin, Leavitt, Edwin, of Waupaca, and Rufus, of Newald, Wis.

Because of Impassable roads the funeral services were held in the Schiller Funeral home, the Rev. Mr. Longenecker, an old friend of the family, had charge of the services. Burial will be in the Town of Seif Cemetery.

The pall bearers were John Seif, Arthur Wagner, Arthur Schwamb, Oscar Kuenkel, George Halbrader, and Frank Wood.

Those who came from away were: Mrs. Emma Martin and her five children and Alice Phillips, of Madison; Leavitt E. Phillips, of Waupaca, Wis.; Judson Noble and Miss Verna Noble, of Dalton, Wis.; Truman Rose, Prentice and Jeffe Picket, of Spencer, Wis. Mr. Phillips will be sorely missed not only by his relatives, but also by a large circle of friends. He seemed to be a man for whom people instinctively cared. He had an analytical mind a keen since of humor and friendly interest in humanity. To know him will was to love him.
