Gluch, Maria (1 Oct. 1851 - 5 March 1935)

Mrs. Dan Gluch, Sr., nee (Maria Pischer), was born Oct. 1, 1851, in Silesia, Germany. In 1871, she came with her sisters and brothers to America, followed by their parents several years later, but who returned again to their native land after a short stay with their children.

She reached the age of 83 years, five months and four days. The cause of her death being heart failure.

Nov. 28, 1872, the deceased was united in marriage to Mr. Dan Gluch, Sr., who had also emigrated from Germany in 1871. For two years the young couple made their home with Ferdinand Johnson, after which Mr. Gluch purchased a tract of land that the cleared up for cultivation, where they lived until Mr. Gluch’s death, Nov. 14, 1913, and where the departed, after that, made her home with her son, John, who with his family, occupies the home place at the present time.

Except being troubled with rheumatism occasionally, she enjoyed the best of health up to the day of her death. Sunday she was still in good spirits as ever, attending divine services in church. Monday night she complained a little of a tightness in her chest. After applying a home remedy for the night, she felt somewhat better in the morning, but decided to stay in bed, hoping to recover soon. Without any special warning she suddenly became weaker and without any complaint of pain she passed away about 10 o’clock a.m., Tuesday, March 5.

She leaves to mourn her departure three sons, Dan, Herman and John Gluch, three daughters, Mrs. Henry Garbisch, Mrs. Robert Garbisch, and Mrs. Archie Howard, thirty-two grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, also one sister living in Portland, Oregon.

Funeral services were held Friday from the home at 1 o’clock and from the Zion Lutheran Church at 2 o’clock p.m. with Rev. Buth officiating. Interment was made in the church cemetery.

The flower girls were four granddaughters, Irene, Leila, Violet and Vivian Gluch, and the pallbearers were six grandsons, Ronald Gluch, Oscar Gluch, Clarion Howard, Dannie Garbisch, Edward Garbisch, and Melvin Garbisch.
