St. John, Bewel B. (22 OCT 1834 - 25 OCT 1907)

Died, at the Commercial Hotel in this city (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.), Friday evening, Oct. 25th, 1907, Mr. Bewel B. St. John of the Soldiers Home in Milwaukee, aged seventy-three years and three days.

The deceased arrive here from Milwaukee Thursday morning, Oct. 17th, on the limited train, and took the next train the same morning, for Somerset to take treatment for partial paralysis of the left side, from which he had suffered fifteen years. He returned Sunday, the 20th, and went to the home of his son, Grant St. John, at Cherokee, Marathon Co. On Thursday the 24th he was feeling so bad he decided to return to Milwaukee and his son brought him to the city, but he was unable to go further and was cared for at the hotel by his son, assisted by Dr. Freeman and several others, but steadily failed, passing away at about 5 o’clock, Friday evening. The cause of death as stated in the certificate was "nervous depression and heart failure caused by extensive wounds of the back."

The remains were taken to Danville, Dodge Co., Wis., Saturday, accompanied by his son, where the funeral and interment took place Sunday.
