Veronica Giesel, Former Loyal Resident Passed Away in Chicago
Funeral services were held at St. Lucy’s Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. on November 30 for Mrs. Veroncia Giesel, formerly of Loyal, who passed away at Garfield Park Memorial Hospital, Chicago, Illinois, November 26, following cancer surgery.
The former Veronica Francis Schwieso was born on January 19, 1925 to Mr. and Mrs. John Schwieso, both deceased. She received her elementary and high school education at St. Anthony’s Catholic and Loyal Public Schools. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s School of Nursing and received her R. N. in 1941. She joined the Army Nurses Corps on December 1, 1941 and underwent basic training at Fort Custer, Kalamazoo, Michigan. In January of 1942 she was sent to the Fiji Islands and in October 1942 she married Captain Ray Giesel at Suma, Fiji. She was commissioned a second lieutenant.
Survivors are one daughter, Pamela Ann of Chicago, Illinois: Miss Evelyn Schwieso, Theodore Schwieso, Jeanette Cole and Donald Beaver, Loyal.
Preceding her in death were three infant children, her parents and a sister, Lucille Gilhaus.
Burial was made in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Chicago.
