King, Herschel R. (? Oct. 1863 - 19 Aug. 1935)
Herschel R. King, well known resident of Richmond, Calif., died Aug. 19 at an Oakland Hospital following an operation.
Mr. King was born in Neillsville, Wis., in Oct. 1863, where he grew to manhood. After leaving here, he worked for several years on construction and engineering projects in Montana and Nevada. He spent several years on an orchard near Ashland, Ore., and came to California, 18 years ago. He has lived in Richmond the past 14 years and was employed by the Standard Oil Company for 16 years.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his widow, Mrs. Nellie Foote King; a son, Kenneth Van Ness King, of Oakland; four sisters, Mrs. Florence Fletcher of Simms, Montana; Mrs. Elsie K. Altemus of Baldwin Park, Calif.; Mrs. Myra K. Oldham of Clarkston, Washington; and Elizabeth King of Chicago. A brother Ernest W. King died three years ago.
Funeral services were conducted in Sunset Mausoleum Chapel in Berkeley, Thursday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Stanley A. Hunter of Berkeley officiating. Interment in Sunset Mausoleum followed the rites.
The funeral was attended by Mrs. Altemus of Baldwin Park, and Mrs. Grace Ayer, sister of Mrs. King, from Great Falls, Montana. Also by Ben Law of Bozeman, Mont.; a nephew of the deceased.
