Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Tormey caused the arrest of Percy C. Gillette, of the town of Lafayette, Chippewa county, on the grave charge of bastardy, on Thursday of last week. The matter came up before justice Burke on Saturday last, W. H. Stafford of Chippewa Falls appeared for the defendent and district attorney Geo. B. Parkhill for the state. The hearing was adjourned until July 23d when the matter will be fully aired. Miss Tormey taught school in the town of Lafayette last fall and winter and boarded with the parents of Mr. Gillette at the time, Percy having since this circumstance is said to have happened, been united in marriage to a very estimable young lady of the neighborhood.
Later - On Monday morning Miss Tormey gave birth to a girl baby.
Later - Miss Tormey died on Tuesday of puerperal eclampsia.
