Laabs, Ernst (18 SEP 1869 - 26 JAN 1908)

Ernst Laabs died at his home in this town (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.), Sunday morning, Jan. 26th, 1908, at 10 o’clock, of pneumonia and pleurisy, aged 38 years.

Already suffering from a chronic disease, Ernst contracted the grippe and by too early exposure developed pneumonia and pleurisy, which hastily brought his end. Everything available was done to save his life, Dr. Jensen calling in Dr. Milbee of Marshfield in consultation, but to no avail.

He was born and reared in this town and was one of our leading young farmers, honored and beloved by all who knew him. He was married to Miss Lydia Sommer of this place in August 1896, who, with two children, Walter, aged 8 years, and Hilda 6 years, are left to mourn the early departure from this life of a kind and loving husband and father. He also leaves his father and six brothers, Willie of this place, Fred, Albert and Emil of Curtiss, Arthur of La Crosse, and Ferdinand of Everett, Wash.

The funeral services will be held from the Lutheran Church, Thursday, at 2 o’clock, Rev. Witchonkie officiating. (Burial was in the Green Grove Lutheran Cemetery)
