Greseke, Friederike (23 JUN 1835 - 25 JUL 1909)
Mrs. William Greseke died at her home in the town of Colby, Clark Co., Wis., Sunday, July 25th, 1909, of old age and general debility, aged 74 years, 1 month and 2 days.
Friederike Hamm was born at Jassnick, Germany, June 23rd, 1835. She was united in marriage to Wm. Greseke, Nov. 23rd, 1860, and in 1870, with her husband, came to America, and to Wisconsin, located in the town of Ashford, Fond du Lac County. In the fall of 1877, she came to Colby, her husband purchasing the farm where she lived and died.
The funeral was held from Zion Lutheran Church, of which she was one of the oldest and highly respected members. It was conducted by Rev. F. Moecker of Dorchester, assisted by Rev. Carl Witschonke of this city. A very long line of carriages containing old friends and neighbors who attended the funeral and accompanied the remains to their last resting place in Colby Cemetery, attest the high esteem in which she was held by all.
Mrs. Greseke has lived in this community for thirty-two years, and her death marks the passing of another early settler. She was a woman with a very pleasant disposition, and always had a kind word and a smile for all. She thought a great deal of her home and family, and was held in highest esteem by them. She has been very active during her life but at the coming of ripening years she became feeble in body, and everything that loving hands could do to make her comfortable, was done. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, Wm. Greseke, and three daughters, Mrs. A.F. Schuelar of the town of Colby, Mrs. Albert Klienfeldt of Oshkosh, and Mrs. Henry A. Frome of the town of Colby, one sister, Mrs. Wepfser of Milwaukee, and eleven grandchildren, besides a host of friends, who will always hold her in loving remembrance.
