Johnson, Permelia J. (22 JUN 1841 - 9 OCT 1909)

Died, at her residence on Clark St. (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.), Saturday evening, Oct. 9th, 1909, of paralysis of the heart, Mrs. Permelia J. Johnson, in the 69th year of her age.

Permelia Jane Fowler was born in the town of Marshall, Oneida Co., N.Y., June 22nd, 1841. When about five years of age her parents came to Wisconsin, and settled at Brothertown, Calumet Co., where on April 5th, 1865, she was united in marriage to L.M. Johnson, and continued to reside at that place until in April 1883, when they removed to Unity, and in October, the same year, came to Colby. Her husband died March 19th, 1886. She was the mother of nine children, five of whom survive her, Clayton S. of this city; George M. of Oshkosh; James P. of High River, Alberta, Can.; Harriet M.A. of this city, and Albert L. of Park Falls, all of whom except James P., were her to attend the funeral. Besides the children she leaves to half brothers, and one half sister, Lewis W., Willis P., and Agnes L. Fowler, residing at Brothertown, and many other relatives and friends to mourn her death.

Mrs. Johnson had been in fairly good health, attending to her household duties up to within an hour of her death. "God touched him with his finger, and he slept," the poet wrote. So may we say of this dear life, "God touched her with his finger, and she slept," but not until a beautiful life was lived. Thus has passed from our midst an aged mother who for twenty-six years has lived in Colby and was loved and respected by her friends and neighbors. She has done her work well and gone to her reward.

To the broken hearted daughter, who was her mother’s constant companion, and to the sons and other relatives, the Phonograph extended its deepest sympathy.

The funeral was held from the M.E. Church, Wednesday afternoon, Rev. R. Prescott officiating. Interment took place in Colby Cemetery.

Those from out of the city, here to attend the funeral, were: George M. Johnson of Oshkosh; Albert L. Johnson, Park Falls; Willis Fowler, Louise Fowler, Hiram Johnson, Marcie Johnson, Harley A. Johnson, of Brothertown; H.R. Crowell, Rispa Crowell, of Spencer; Myra Boyer of Unity.
