Ben Mewin, 87, celebrated his birthday last Friday evening, March 12, 1971, with
cake and ice cream, and friends at the Coffee Shop.
Merwin has been a lifelong resident of the Abbotsford area, being born on a
farm, which is still in the family, six miles east of Abbotsford.
His son, Harold, still lives on the farm, though not engage in farming.
Ben now lives in the Abbotsford Hotel (Clark Co., Wis.), but he and his wife,
who is till living, celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on January 15,
1971.
A prior birthday party for members of his family was held recently.
The Merwins are also parents of a daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Hazel) Remmell, and
another son, Arvin, in Kewaskum. Wisconsin.
Merwin worked at many jobs during his lifetime, from the age of 13, when he
started logging. He farmed, helped build new roads around the area when there
were no roads, worked as a carpenter, masonry man, telephone lineman, of which
he tells the story of freezing his hands, worked with the old Hull-Holton Cheese
factory for 26 years, was a constable in the town of Holton, and an assistant
police officer in Abbotsford, alon with various other odd jobs in a long career.
