Davel, Marie (12 AUG 1935)
On Monday morning at 9 0’clock Miss Marie Davel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Davel, Loyal, became the bride of W. Scott Canney, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Canney, Marshfield.
The wedding ceremony which was performed in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Loyal with the Rev. Father Aurit officiating, was solemnized with the nuptial mass in the presence of many friends.
The bride was attired in a Normandy blue gown and wore a hat to correspond. She carried a shower bouquet of pink and white roses. Her bridesmaid, her sister Miss Gertrude Davel, wore a brown silk net gown and a corsage of sweet peas.
The groom’s attendant was his brother La Verne Canney of Marshfield.
Miss Catherine Canney, sister of the groom, sang three beautiful hymns, "Just For Today", "Ave Maria" at offertory and "Oh, Lord I am not Worthy" at communion, with Eleanore Theisen as accompanist.
The home was beautifully decorated in blue and white for the dinner served by the bride’s parents to about forty guests. The out of town guests were the groom’s parents, grandmother, sisters, and brothers and the bride’s sisters, the Misses Evelyn and Gertrude Davel.
The new Mrs. Canney is a graduate of the Loyal High School, class of ’25, and also a graduate of the Stevens Point Teachers College. She taught several years in Spencer and the past year she taught in her home town. Her husband graduated from the River Falls Teachers’ College and taught several years in Arkansas and Spencer. He has accepted a position as instructor in science and mathematics in Algoma, Wis., and there they will go to make their home after a two weeks trip spent in Minneapolis and other places.
The sincere good wishes of a host of friends go with Mr. and Mrs. Canney to their new home and new life.
Last Thursday the couple the were the guests of honor at a shower given by their Spencer friends.
Stevens Point , Wisconsin Central State Teachers' College
In 1927 Stevens Point Normal School became Central State Teachers College and began offering four-year teaching degrees. When post-World War II enrollment became less centered on teacher training and more focused on liberal arts education, the Wisconsin State Legislature intervened, elevating the school to a Wisconsin State College with the authority to grant bachelor's degrees in liberal arts.
