Harper, Henry (5 FEB 1863 - 28 OCT 1934)

After an illness extending over a period of several months, Henry Harper passed away at his home in Worden, Clark Co., Wis., on Sunday evening, Oct. 28th, at the age of 71 years, eight months and twenty-three days.

Mr. Harper was taken ill in May, which resulted in dropsy. He has been a patient at the hospital in Chippewa Falls twice during the summer, where he remained for treatment. About a month ago he returned home but he continually lost strength until the end came.

He was born in Richleau Co., Wis. on Feb. 5, 1863, and moved to the town of Reseburg, Clark Co., in 1902, and in 1911 moved to his present farm where he has since resided. On Oct. 7, 1888, he was united in marriage to Miss Julia Loeb, who survives him.

Nine children were born to this union. The six who survive are: Nettie, Mrs. Louis Pagel; Turon and William of Eau Claire; Jennie, Mrs. Edwin Ramberg; Jessie, Mrs. Walter Bohn; Clara, Mrs. Alfred Hansen of Eau Claire. A son Fred, was killed in the World War on Oct. 4, 1918, and Martha died in 1907 at the age of two years, also an infant daughter passed away. There are twenty-two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Two brothers and three sisters also survive, George of Tacoma, Wash., High of Windom, Minn., Mrs. Amelia Coney of Kenmarie, N.D., Mrs. M. Honer of Harvey, N.D., Mrs. Martha Craigo of Viroqua, Wis.

Mr. Harper was well known as one of the old settlers. His liking for horses was manifest by all who knew him. He will be missed by his many relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home by Rev. Bennetts of Knapp. Burial was made in the Reseburg Cemetery beside his children who preceded him.

The pallbearers were Philip Mattes, Robert Telford, Herman Buss, Henry Bauers, Frank Gibbe and Alex Seoller.
