Roger B. Hendricks, 74, Greenwood, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019, at Clark
County Rehab & Living Center, Owen, under the care of St. Croix Hospice. No
services will be held. A private family interment will be held at a later date
in Old St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery east of Thorp.
Roger Bruce Hendricks was born on June 1, 1944, in Stanley, to Anton “Tony” and
Ann (nee Abramczuk) Hendricks. He was raised in the town of Mead, rural Thorp,
and received his education in Thorp, graduating from Thorp High School in 1962.
Following graduation, Roger studied at UW-Eau Claire, where he received a
bachelor of science degree in zoology and chemistry. He moved to Minneapolis and
worked at 3M and General Mills until he was drafted into the U.S. Army on May
27, 1965. He was deployed to Vietnam and served until his honorable discharge on
May 5, 1967. Roger then studied at UW-Stevens Point and later transferred to
UW-Madison, where he received his bachelor of science degree in pharmacy. After
his pharmacy internship, he worked for Harold Krom at the Greenwood Pharmacy,
which he later purchased. In 1999, Roger sold his business and then worked for
K-Mart Pharmacy in Marshfield until its closing. He then worked at Pamida
Pharmacy in Neillsville until a stroke and other health issues forced him into
early retirement. Roger served on the board of directors for Memorial Medical
Center for 16 years, was a member of the Greenwood American Legion Post #238,
and owned the Hotel Gift Shop, which he later converted into apartments. He had
many interests, but especially enjoyed traveling, gardening and canning, fl ea
markets, hunting, and attending gun shows. Roger had been a fi rearms dealer and
would set up at several gun shows with his friends.
He will be sadly missed by his siblings: Brian (Joan) Hendricks of Owen, Peggy
(Ron) Benzschawel of West Dundee, Ill., Sandra (Cliff) Schofield of Greenwood,
Mark Hendricks of Rockford, Ill., and Bonnie (Ray) Hollinger of York, Pa.;
nieces and nephews: Debra Schofield, Tammy (Mike) Mireles, Scott Schofield,
Kimberly (Patrick) Easterday, Kristine (David) Engel, Steven Benzschawel, and
Rebecca Hollinger; great- nieces and nephews: Trista Sepp, Max Mireles, Freyja
Schofield, Kaitlyn Easterday, Ryan Easterday and Emmanuelle Engel; a
great-great-nephew: Kaden Lewis; and other relatives and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Karen, in infancy; and
his son, Jason, on May 9, 2016.
