Baures, Father Steven H. (29 MAR 1950 - 4 FEB 2006)

Father Steven H. Baures, 55, and a priest for 22 years, died on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, in Chippewa Falls. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Feb. 8, from 4-8 p.m., with a rosary service at 7 p.m., at Saint Bernard-saint Hedwig Church, Thorp. There will also be visitation on Thursday, Feb. 9, from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. The Most Rev. Jerome E. Listecki will be the main celebrant.

Steven Henry Baures was born on March 29, 1950, in Stanley, to Edward and Margaret (nee Beckman) Baures. He attended Saint Hedwig Elementary School, Thorp, Thorp High School and Saint Paul Seminary, Saint Paul, Minn. He was ordained on May 21, 1983, at Saint Joseph the Workman Cathedral, La Crosse, by Bishop John J. Paul. His first assignment following ordination was as associate pastor of Notre Dame Parish, Chippewa Falls. In September 1985, he was assigned as associate pastor of Saint Patrick Parish, Onalaska, Cazenovioa, and Saint Wenceslaus Parish, Yuba on June 21, 1988. He was assigned as pastor of Saint Mary Parish, Greenwood, and Holy Family Paeish, Willard, on Aug. 11, 1992. In October 1995, he was assigned as parochial administrator of Saint Paul Parish, New Lisbon, and Our Lady of the Lake Parish, Germantown, and was named as pastor of the two parishes in January 1996. He served as pastor of Saint Paul Parish and Our Lady of the Lake Parish until Jan. 23, 2005, when he resigned for health reasons.

Survivors include his mother, Margaret; five brothers, Jim (Teresa), Donald (Debra), Leonard (Sharon), Nicholas (Julie) and Dean (Vicki); three sisters, Audrey (Robert), Roseann (Tom) and Linda; 10 nephews, 16 nieces; one great-nephew; and one great niece.

Preceding him in death was his father, Edward, in 1989.

Thorp Funeral Home is assisting the Diocese of La Crosse and the family with arrangements.
