Hickmann, Joseph (1 NOV 1860 - 31 MAR 1937)
THORP, Clark Co., Wis. - Funeral services for Joseph Hickmann, 76, resident of this community for the past 51 years, who died as a result of a stomach ailment Saturday at the home of his son, John, were conducted Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Church. The Rev. A.M. Muckerheide officiated, and burial took place in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Stanley Maszueck, Theodore Broeren, Jacob Smith, Thomas Vander Wegen, Anton Velcheck, and John Roth.
Mr. Hickmann was born on Nov. 1, 1860, in the town of Memee, Manitowoc Co., Wis. In his early manhood, he worked in the logging camps of Clark County, which at that time was virgin forest. He was married to Miss Francisca Meyer on Dec. 2, 1885, at Manitowoc.
Five years after their marriage, on May 6, 1890, Mr. and Mrs. Hickmann came to Thorp to make their home. In 1899 they moved to a farm in the town of Reseburg where they resided until the spring of 1928, when they returned to the village of Thorp. Mrs. Hickmann died on Aug. 23, 1936.
Surviving Mr. Hickmann are three children, John, William and Mrs. Frank (Katherine) Bradle, Jr., all of Thorp, five grandchildren, and one brother, Chris Hickmann, Sheboygan.
