Grow, Lillian (18 SEP 1859 - 12 APR 1911)

A Butte, Mont. Paper of April 13th, 1911, contains the following notice of the death of Mrs. L.A. Grow, which occurred in that city Wednesday morning, April 12:

"Mrs. Lillian Grow, aged 52 years, a nurse of Butte, died of heart disease at her apartments in the Mantle block at 10:30 o’clock yesterday morning.

About 11 o’clock Mrs. Higginson of Great Falls, who had a room there, went into the bathroom and noticed Mrs. Grow lying on the floor. She immediately called Mrs. Hanson, the proprietress of the rooming house, and they summoned Dr. Phoebe Ferris, who said at once that she was dead. An examination showed that heart failure was the cause of death.

"Mrs. Grow was one of the jolliest and best-natured persons you ever met," said Mrs. Hanson last night, "and she was apparently in good spirits. Sometimes she had fainting spells, due, I thought, to the altitude."

Mrs. Grow acted as a professional nurse at Alhambra Hot Springs and alter at Pipestone Springs. The body will be shipped to Wisconsin by the Oregon Short Line."

Lillian Agnes Wicker was born to Mr. and Mrs. James D. Wicker, at Williamsburg, N.Y., Sept. 18th, 1859, and came west with her parents in the year 1871. The family came to Marathon County and settled in the town of Hull in August 1873. She taught school several terms, and on May 9th, 1878, was married to Charles F. Grow and resided in Colby until the year 1883, when they moved to Neillsville, Mr. Grow having been elected county clerk. She was the mother of three children, George J., Grace, and Harold E., the latter being the only surviving member of the family. George died at the age of 15 in 1895; Mr. Grow died in July 1909, and Grace (Mrs. Chas. Taylor), died in May 1910. She had been in the west for the past two years, and expected to return soon and reside with her son Harold at Neillsville, Wis. Besides her son, her mother, Mrs. A.A. Wicker, a sister, Mrs. J.C. Enright of St. Paul, and brothers, Howard and E.L. Wicker of this city, survive to mourn her death.

Lillian Wicker Grow was of an affectionate disposition, bright and winning in her ways, so that friendship’s circle was to her a large one, and the many friends here will deeply sympathize with the bereaved relatives.
