Smart, John E. (2 APR 1857 - 28 JUN 1911)

John E Smart, who moved with his family from the town of Hull, Marathon Co., Wis. to Wausau last March, died at his home in that city last week Wednesday, June 18th, 1911, of Bright’s disease, aged 54 years, 2 months and 26 days.

John E. Smart was born in the state of Maine, April 2nd, 1857; he came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Smart, to Plymouth, Wis., in the year 1875, where the family resided until the fall of 1879, when they removed to Colby, settling on a farm in the town of Hull, where he continued to reside until their removal to Wausau about four months ago. He was united in marriage in Colby, on Sept. 9th, 1880, by D.R. Freeman, Esq., to Miss Susannah Grant, also of the town of Hull, who with eight children survive to mourn his death. The children are: Chester of Wausau; Dora (Mrs. Fred Fisher) of Sheboygan; Belle (Mrs. Leslie Markuso); Harry, Myra, Frances, Esther and George, of Wausau. He is also survived by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Jennie Pendleton of Maine; Alfred Smart of the town of Hull, and Mrs. Nora Zarnke of Wausau, all of whom, except Mrs. Pendleton, were present to attend the funeral services which were held from his late home, Saturday afternoon, July 1st, Rev. James Duer officiating. The burial took place in the Wausau Cemetery.
