Rouse, Robert L. (14 April 1856 - 21 April 1936)

Robert L. Rouse, for more than 20 years a resident of the town of Dewhurst, in this county, died at the home of a daughter in Woodstock, Ill., April 21, at the age of 80 years, and one week. His death was due to a stroke of apoplexy.

Mr. Rouse was born at Culper, Virginia, April 14, 1856. He grew to manhood there and was married to Miss Theresa Clore at Hayward, Va., in 1883. In 1915 they came to Clark County and bought land south of Columbia, where they built a home and developed a farm. Mr. Rouse was very industrious, and a good farmer, and during the years when he was strong and able to work, had a good farm home.

Two years ago, being no longer able to carry on the place, he went to Milwaukee to live with a daughter, and a year later went to Woodstock to live at home of another daughter, remaining there till his death.

Mr. Rouse was a man of fine type, intelligent, gentlemanly and likable years in every way.

His wife died in 1920, and one daughter, Margaret, passed away 7 years ago.

He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. P. R. (Emily) Hines, Woodstock, Ill., Mrs. Ruth Blankenbicker, Milwaukee; Mrs. Roy (Mayme) Iverson, Dells Dame; Mrs. Legare (Josephine) Apfel, Dells Dam; and Miss Dorothy Rouse, Neillsville, and by three sons, Ernest, Missoula, Mont., Clarence, Stevens Point, and Robert Jr., Milwaukee.

Funeral services were held Friday at 2 o’clock from the Lowe Funeral Home, with the Rev. P. B. White officiating, and with burial in the Neillsville Cemetery.

All members of the family were present for the funeral.
