Local authorities are investigating a burglary that occurred May 26 at an
Abbotsford tavern, with thieves pilfering stereo equipment worth over $2,000.
Mike Tobolic, the owner of Mike’s Wildside tavern on Abby’s south side, reported
he break-in the morning of May 26. He said a stereo amplifier, CD player, tape
deck, speakers, a microwave oven and$70 in cash were stolen. The value of the
equipment, he said was $2,200.
Police reported a storage room and the bar had been trashed, with articles
tossed around and cases of beer tipped over.
Police were told that a local man wanted on a felony escape warrant was in town,
and were directed to the farm of the man’s girlfriend, where the man’s truck was
spotted. A check with the county district attorney revealed the officers could
not obtain a search warrant to look for the man unless they had physically seen
him on the property, so they watched from the road.
A man riding an off-road motorcycle then took off from the farm through the
fields. Local and county officers gave chase with their cars on town roads in
the Town of Unity, then on foot in brush and woods. A civilian aiding the police
ran the ram to the ground and he was cuffed and arrested by officers and taken
to jail. He faces possible charges of fleeing an officer non-registration, no
eye protection on a motorcycle and operating after revocation.
