Fries, Charles Franklin (15 JAN 1929 - 2 JUN 2019)
Charles Franklin Fries, 90, Prentice, died in the Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing
Home in Phillips on Sunday, June 2, while under the care of Flambeau Home Health
and Hospice.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on January 15, 1929, the first born son of
Harry and Geneva (Gadbaw) Fries. He was a member of the ROTC throughout high
school, and joined the Army at the age of 17, serving in Korea as an MP.
At the age of 18 he married Margaret Hopkins, the love of his life, on December
16, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois. Following his time in the Army he served as a
Chicago Police Officer, a job that he loved for 34 years. He was a Detective for
25 of those 34 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Fraternal Order
of Police, the Illinois Police Association, and a Life Member of the American
Legion. He and Margaret purchased property in the Prentice area in 1971,
vacationed with their family on the property for many years, and in 1993 made
Prentice their permanent home.
He is survived by eight children, Charlene (Richard) Kobel, Prentice, Deborah
(Richard) Miotto, Warsaw, IN, Denise (Paul) Bock, Summit, IL, Cheryl (Anthony)
Schoeffel, Crown Point, IN, Lynda Haniacek, Portage, IN, Lois (Randy) Lundquist,
Lombard, IL, Charles (Bonnie), Summit, IL, and Nancy Fries, Prentice; by 13
grandchildren, and by many wonderful great grandchildren, great great
grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 7, at Saint John
the Baptist Catholic Church in Prentice with Father Gerald Hagen celebrating the
Funeral Mass. Inurnment will be in the Chapel Hill Garden South in Chicago,
Illinois. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the
time of services.
