Fricke, Erhard (8 SEP 1841 - 18 OCT 1913)
Erhard Fricke, one of our early settlers, who underwent an operation at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, last week Wednesday, died at the hospital Saturday morning, Oct. 18th, 1913, of pneumonia, aged 72 years, 1 month and 10 days.
Erhard Fricke was born in Hanover, Germany, Sept. 8th, 1841. He came to America in the year 1871, and settled in Fond du Lac County, where Dec. 5th, 1874, he was united in marriage to Mrs. John Rein. In the fall of 1878, he came to Colby and moved onto a piece of land in the town of Hull, Marathon Co., six miles east of this city, which he converted into one of the finest farms in the town. He was a hardworking man and was held in high esteem by his neighbors and friends. Since the death of his wife, Nov. 27th, 1910, he has lived with his children, most of the time on the old homestead with his daughter, Mrs. Harry Demand. About two weeks before his death he returned home from Saynor, where he had been staying with his daughter. He is survived by six children, Adolph, Fred, Edward, Mrs. Harry Demand, town of Hull; Mrs. Geo. Lietl, Marathon; Mrs. Herbert Warner, Saynor; and three step-children, Mrs. John LaPage, Minneapolis; Geo. Rein, Schofield, and Henry Rein, town of Hull.
The funeral was held from the M.E. Church in this city, Tuesday afternoon, Rev. R. Braddick officiating. Interment took place in the Colby Cemetery.
