Cobb, Martha V. (8 JUL 1840 - 5 APR 1914)

In the death of Mrs. Martha Viola Cobb, wife of Edgar Cobb, an old and highly respected citizen of Colby, Clark Co., Wis., was removed from our midst. During her life of over thirty-four years here, her list of friends continually grew and she was widely known and beloved by all. She passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, Sunday night, April 5th, 1914, of septic gangrene, aged 73 years, 8 months and 27 days.

Martha Viola Bailey was born in Ticonderoga, Essex Co., N.Y., on July 8th, 1840; she came with her parents to Sun Prairie, Wis., in 1846. She was united in marriage to Edgar Cobb, Nov. 1st, 1865, and in 1880, with her husband, came to Colby and settled on a farm in the town of Hull, Marathon Co. A few years ago they sold the farm and moved into the city.

She united with the M.E. Church fifty years ago, since which time she has been a faithful and consistent member. She is survived by her husband, one son and four daughters, Dr. E.C. Cobb and Mrs. Ida Emerson of Sun Prairie, Wis.; Mrs. Grace Lozier of Marion, Mont.; Mrs. Edna Page of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Mrs. Nellie Denney of Septer, Canada, and one brother, N.R. Bailey of Cadott, Wis., all of whom were present at the funeral except Mrs. Page and Mrs. Denney. Other relatives present were: Dr. W.N. Bailey of Cadott, Mrs. Clara King and Mrs. Floy Lee of Granton, Wis.

The funeral was held from the M.E. Church in this city, Tuesday afternoon, Rev. R.R. Braddick officiating. Interment was made in Colby Cemetery.
