Susan Abel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Abel, Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.), has been named the top student at Loyal High School in a recent test administered to discover the Homemaker of Tomorrow. The announcement was made by Gwendolyn Landini, Home Economics teacher.

Susan is active in Spanish Club, band, pep band, National Honor Society and Wisconsin State Honors band. She attended the Laird Youth Leadership Foundation Conference, and is a National Merit Scholarship finalist.

She will now be entered in the state contest. The contest is sponsored by General Mills.

Miss Abel is a 1975 graduate of Loyal High School and will be receiving her degree in nursing from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. Her fiancé is a 1973 graduate of Appleton High School, and a 1977 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. He will be receiving his Master’s in Business Administration in May from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

An August 18, 1979 wedding is being planned.

Susan Abel daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Abel received her cap at the nursing convocation in Eau Claire.

Susan is attending the University of Eau Claire School of Nursing four and one half-year course.

Those attending were her mother, Mrs. Ronald Abel, her grandmothers, Mrs. Charles Tieman of Thorp, and Mrs. Theodore Abel of Greenwood; also, Mrs. Harold Dahl and daughter, Anna, of Loyal.

On Saturday evening, August 18, 1979, at 7:00 p.m. Miss Susan Ann Abel became the bride of Carl Thomas Smith. The bride, who lives in Appleton, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Abel, Loyal and the groom, who lives in Menasha, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Smith, Menasha. The Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal, was the scene of the ceremony, with the Rev. Bruno Schlachtenhaufen officiating. Kathy Jasurda was the organist and Kristie Cole and Jeff Harder sang.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, was seen in a white sleeveless crepe gown with an empire waistline. She carried a bouquet of pink roses.

Mrs. Patti Wohlfeil was the matron of honor, and Laurel Klabon, Susan Boudreau and Rhonda Bauer were bridesmaids. They wore frosted pink sleeveless gowns with an over blouse.

Serving as the bet man was Dale Walker. Bruce Thompson, John Krueger and Mark Zettel were groomsmen. Perry and Brian Abel performed ushering duties.

There was a reception, dinner and dance immediate following the ceremony at the American Legion Hall, Loyal.

The bride is a graduate of Loyal High School and the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire with a degree in Nursing. She is employed by the Visiting Nurses Association, Appleton. The groom is a graduate of Menasha High School and also of the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire and the University of Wisconsin, Madison, with a Masters in Business. He is employed at the Appleton Paper Company.

After a weeding trip to Door County, they will reside at 743 ½ W. 5th, Appleton.
