Bardell, Helen M. (? – 13 July 1985)
Sixty-eight year old Helen M. Bardell passed away July 13 at Wildwood, Florida.
Born in Neillsville, she was the daughter of John and Gunda Gullickson.
She was a Wildwood resident since 1977, she had moved from Antioch, Illinois.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Lutheran Church.
Surviving are her husband, Wilbur; daughters, Joyce Whitlock, Summerville,
Florida, Carolyn Jenkins, Clearwater, Florida; a son Robert, LaSalle, Illinois;
a sister, Ann Caplin, Marshfield, Wisconsin; a brother Henry Gullickson, White
Bear Lake, Minnesota; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Crandall, Douglas L. (30 January 1912 – 4 July 1985) With Flag
Douglas L Crandall, 73, passed away on Thursday, July 4, at the Neillsville
Memorial Home. He resided in Granton.
He was born the son of Eugene Crandall and Vera Williams on January 30, 1912, in
Neillsville, and he was educated in Granton and was a World War II Navy Veteran.
He worked in a grocery store and at Berg Implement in Marshfield.
On November 30, 1948, he married the former Dorothy Gardner, in Neillsville.
Surviving are his wife, son Jeff Crandall, Granton, brother, Ted Crandall, De
Pere, WI and three grandchildren.
Services were held on Saturday, July 6, at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, with
Rev. C. Arlene Denzer officiating. Mildred Faber was the organist. Burial was
made in the Windfall Cemetery, at Granton.

Jacobson, Harry (18 November 1890 – 14 July 1985)
Harry Jacobson, 94, passed away Sunday, July 14, at the Neillsville Memorial
Home. Services will have been held on Wednesday, July 17, at the Gesche Funeral
Home, with Ralph E. Schram officiating. Pallbearers were his nephews. Singers
were Dean and Darlene Nelson, with Iris Musil as the accompanist. Burial was
made in the Town of Sherwood Cemetery.
Harry was born the son of Jacob and Annette Jacobson, on November 18, 1890, in
the Town of Sherwood, and educated there. After his education, he farmed in the
Town of Sherwood, first with his parents and later with his brother, Francis,
for many years. In 1974, he moved to Neillsville and lived at the Merchants
Hotel for several years. He had been a resident of the Neillsville Memorial Home
for the past five years, due to failing health. He passed away following a
lingering illness.
Surviving him is a sister, Helen Fluegel, Rockford, Ill. Preceding him in death
were his parents, brothers, Henry, Joseph and Francis; and sisters, Esther and
Rugna.

Mayeda, Patricia (? – 6 July 1985)
Patricia Dorst Mayeda, 55, died on July 6 at the Kaiser Hospital in Fontana,
California. She was a former resident of the Granton-Chili area, graduating from
the Granton High School and the University of Eau Claire. She taught school at
Wausau and Blair, Wisconsin, before moving to Ontario, California. She was an
interior designer and was very active in many organizations.
She is survived by her mother, Elva Dorst Smiley, two sons, Timothy Mayeda and
Christopher Mayeda; a daughter, Mikko Mayeda, all of Ontario and a brother,
James J. Dorst of Claremont, California. She was preceded in death by her
father, Ray J. Dorst, formerly of Granton.
Funeral services were held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Upland, California.
Interment was in Oak Park Cemetery, Claremont, California.

Meyer, Merrill L. “Slim” (31 December 1900 – 21 July 1985)
Merrill L. “Slim” Meyer, 84, passed away Sunday, July 21, at Pine View Nursing
Home, Black River Falls. Graveside services were held Tuesday, July 23, at
Neillsville City Cemetery, with Rev. Howard Ott officiating.
He was born on December 31, 1900, in Volag City, Iowa, the son of William J. and
Cynthia M. (Moore) Meyer. Educated in Iowa, he attended mechanic’s school in
Milwaukee, and moved to northern Wisconsin where he worked until his marriage.
He married Helen M. Free, and she preceded him in death on May 23, 1964.
Moving to Neillsville, following his marriage, he worked at various jobs until
his retirement. Eight years ago he moved to Hixton, where he resided until 1983.
Due to failing health, he entered Pine View Nursing Home and passed away
following a brief illness.

Schaefer, Vernice E. (12 September 1908 – 1 July 1985)
Vernice E. Schaefer, 76, passed away on Monday, July 1, at the hospice unit of
St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, following a lingering illness. She resided at
Rt. 3 Neillsville, in the Town of Weston.
She was born the daughter of Frank and Ella Brown on September 12, 1908, in
Merrill. She started her education in Merrill and at age 11, after the death of
her father, the family moved to New Lisbon, where she completed her education.
She then worked at the U.S. Post Office and at the Farmers and Merchants Bank in
New Lisbon. After her marriage to George H. Schaefer, on August 30, 1930, in
Winona, Minnesota, they moved to the Christie area, where they farmed in the
Town of Weston for many years until they retired from farming in 1959.
She was the Clerk of the Christie School Board for 25 years and a member of
Christie United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Weston Homemakers,
Clark County Historical Society, and Marshfield Stroke Club.
Surviving are three daughters Mrs. Ashley (Verna) Freiberg, Santa Clara,
California; Mrs. Gaylord (Mabel) Johnson, Port Edwards; Mrs. Bradley (Elva)
Bennett, Wisconsin Rapids; a brother Harley Brown, Racine, seven grandchildren
and one great grandson.

Services were held on Wednesday, July 3, at Christie United Methodist Church,
with Rev. Norbert Miller officiating. Betty Schultz was the vocalist,
accompanied by Iris Musil. Pallbearers were Wayne Voss, Rene Harder, Richard
Buchholz, Ralph Bensen, Ben Schwellenbach and Bernie Opelt. Burial was made in
the Town of Weston Cemetery.

Swann, Margaret G. (14 June 1906 – 19 July 1985)
Funeral services were held on Monday, July 22, at Gesche Funeral Home for Mrs.
Clifford (Margaret G.) Swann, Sr., age 79, who passed away July 19, following a
brief illness. Rev. Howard Ott officiated at the services and music accompanist
was Iris Musil. Interment was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Pallbearers
were grandsons, Charles, David and James Stanley; Eric and Jeremy Swann; and
Steve Lipscy.
She was born June 14, 1906, in Winfield, Kansas, the daughter of Charles L. and
Margaret (Nyere) Bealer. She received her early education in Kansas, and later
attended Coe College at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Following her education, she married
Clifford E. Swann on July 10, 1926, in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and for several years
they lived in Cedar Rapids. A move took them to Arkansas until 1930, at which
time they returned to Iowa. 1931 brought them to a farm in the Town of Grant in
Clark County, where they farmed until their retirement in 1959. Then, Des
Plaines, Illinois became their home until 1976, but they subsequently returned
to the Town of Grant where they have resided since.
Surviving are her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Hilda) Lipscy,
Neillsville, and Mrs. Lawrence (Catherine) Stanley, Marshfield; two sons,
Clifford Swann, Jr., Edgerton, Wisconsin, and Charles Swann, Tifton, Georgia;
nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Todd, Wesley (Bill) (28 July 1928 – 31 July 1985)
Fifty-seven year old Wesley (Bill) Todd, Rt. 1 Chili, was laid to rest on
Saturday, August 3, at Yolo Cemetery, Chili. He died on Wednesday, July 31, at
Neillsville Memorial Hospital. Rev. C. Arlene Denzer officiated at funeral
services held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Granton.
He was born July 28, 1928, in the Town of York, and was educated there and at
Granton High School. On October 28, 1952, he married Elaine Kleinschmidt. He
farmed until 1965, at that time they moved to Rt. 1 Chili.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Allen (Wendy) Dole, and Mary,
both of Eau Claire; and three sons, Kevin, Eau Claire, Robert and Thomas, both
of Chili. Preceding him in death was one daughter, Susan.

Warner, Vernon W. (19 June 1901 – 3 August 1985)
Neillsville resident, Vernon W. Warner, 84, passed away on Saturday, August 3.
No Funeral Service nor visitation were held.
He was born in Monroe, on June 19, 1901, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Warner.
He spent his life in various institutions in Wisconsin. During the past five
years he had lived at the Ellsworth Sherwood home in Neillsville. Due to failing
health he had been residing at the Neillsville Memorial Home for the past two
weeks.
Preceding him in death were his parents, several brothers and sisters.

Wightman, Andrew B. (25 November 1898 – 26 July 1985)
Services were held on Monday, July 29, at Gesche Funeral Home for area resident
Andrew B. Wightman, 86. He passed away July 26, at Neillsville Memorial
Hospital.
Andrew was born on November 25, 1898, in Clark County, the son of Andrew and
Nettie Wightman. Following his education he farmed with his parents in the Town
of Pine Valley. He continued to farm the home farm for many years after the
deaths of his parents. Quinnel Fur Farm and later, Liskow Fur Farm, in the Town
of Pine Valley, employed him. Due to failing health, he moved to the Neillsville
Memorial Home in 1982.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Edward and a sister, Marion.
Rev. Paul Forde officiated at the services, Music was provided by vocalist, Mrs.
Karen Forde, and accompanist was Iris Musil. Pallbearers were Ted Kopp, Albert
and Ernest Mohr, Harry King, Arnold and Richard Karl. Burial was made in the
South Pine Valley Cemetery.
