Kayhart, Hattie (31 May 1853 - 31 Aug. 1936)

Mrs. Hattie Kayhart, long a resident of the town of Weston, died Monday night, August 31, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Draper of Loyal.

Funeral services are held this Wednesday afternoon at Loyal.

Mrs. Charles Kayhart was born Hattie E. Smith in Manitowoc, Wis., May 31, 1853. She grew to womanhood there, was educated in the public school and taught school at Kiel, Wis., for a short time. She came to Clark County early in the spring of 1871, to teach the Christie school. On October 9, she was married to Charles Kayhart who preceded her in death in July, 1909. Together they moved on a farm two miles north of Christie, which they purchased, and there in true pioneer style, carved a comfortable home from the forest. To them were born three children, Amy, Mrs. Fred Draper of Loyal; Neva, Mrs. W. R. Swann of Neillsville, and Roy, deceased in February, 1922. She remained on the farm summers, spending winters with her daughters until her health failed, so she was no longer able to care for herself.

About three years ago she went to lived with Mrs. Draper. Her health and strength have been failing for some time, though she was able to be about until Aug. 20, when she suffered a slight stroke from which she seemed to be in no pain, but slept most of the time till the end came peacefully, Monday evening, Aug. 31.

She leaves besides her two daughters mentioned; four grandchildren, a sister, Mildred Smith, in California, and a brother, Ed Smith, of Medford, Wis.

The funeral was held Sept. 2 in the Fred Methodist Church in Loyal, of which she was faithful member. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the Neillsville Cemetery.
