Hazel Hansen, age 86, of Seattle, Washington died on November 6, 2005.
Hazel, the daughter of Charles and Ella Hansen, grew up in Neillsville and graduated from Neillsville High School in 1939. She attended Normal School in Wisconsin Rapids and taught in elementary schools in the area. She did graduate work at Columbia University, University of Minnesota and the University of Washington. After World War II she taught in Germany for two years and two years in Japan in the schools for the families of the American army of occupation.
She then settled in Seattle and continued her teaching career. She wrote a book entitled "Parents, Teach Your Child Phonics." A dedicated teacher, as she was named teacher of the year in Seattle in 1973-74.
Hazel is survived by two sisters, Gertrude Coco, of Las Vegas and Marcella Lourd of New York City.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Donald and Robert, and one sister Myrtle.
