Westphal, Evelyn (Marriage - 16 Sept. 1936)

Evelyn Westphal, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Westphal of this city, and Walter Johnson, son of Mrs. Ella Johnson, of Loyal, were united in marriage Sept. 16 at 2:30 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rev. William Baumann officiating in the double ring ceremony which was witnessed by 45 relatives and friends. The church was attractively decorated with nile green and white streamers, gladioli and mixed flowers.

Lohengrin’s Wedding march was played by Eric Sievert and "Let Me be Thine Forever", was sung.

Miss Westphal was pretty in a white transparent velvet floor length gown, cowl neckline and dolman sleeves. Her long veil was held in place by a band of orange blossoms and she carried a bouquet of pink roses. The bridesmaid, Helen Schlinkert, cousin of the bride, wore a very alluring costume of nile green taffeta with white accessories, a silver head band and a wrist bouquet of pink and mixed flowers. William Westphal, a brother of the bride, was the best man.

After the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents and supper was served at 5 p.m. to 45 guests. A large wedding cake decorated the table and the home was decorated with green and white streamers, a wedding bell, large baskets of gladioli and several bouquets of other flowers. The evening was spent in a social time and lunch was served at midnight.

The young couple left on a wedding trip to the southern part of the state, returning Sept. 20. They will be at home at 174 West Fifth Street October 1.

Miss Westphal has been a resident of Neillsville all her life and attended the schools in this city. She is a young lady of exceptionally fine character and intelligence and ahs a large circle of warm friends here. The bridegroom for the past eight years and is now employed as a mechanic at the Seif and Byse Sales Co., where he has proved most efficient and is highly spoken of by all how know him.
