Gregory, Cassie (19 April 1860 - 16 Sept. 1936)
Cassie McSwaine was born on April 19, 1860, at Monique, Iowa and passed away at her home in Humbird September 16, 1936 at the age of 76 years, 5 months and 27 days.
She came to Alma Center, when two years of age with her parents. They lived on a farm west of the town known as the Peter Statz farm. She lived there until the time of her marriage to William Gregory of Alma Center on February 21, 1883. They came to Humbird in 1894 and lived in the vicinity since.
There were born to this union eight children.
She was patient sufferer for three long years, having four operations at the Eau Claire hospital. She never complained or lost courage till the last.
Mrs. Gregory was a kind loving wife, mother and neighbor and will be sadly missed by all.
Those left to mourn her are her husband and one brother, Commodore of California and eight children, Mack of Milwaukee; Omar of Humbird, Robert and Harry of Pontiac, Michigan, Mrs. Roy Andreas and Mrs. L. G. Faber of Stevens Point.
Will and Gladys preceded her in death. There were also 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.
Those from away to attend her funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Albert Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Archie Hall of Durand; Mrs. Douglas Butler and family of Neillsville; Mrs. Cora Gregory and Mr. and Mrs. John Sager of Stevens Point; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Zetche and family and Mrs. Robert Sythe of Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Olof Amundsen of Hixton; Bazil Benett and family of Hixton; Mr. and Mrs. Will Rhead of Hixton; Mrs. J. Billerbeck, Mrs. Josie Billerbreck and Erne Rhead of Alma Center; Mrs. John Rhead of Black River Falls; Mrs. Glenn Van Horn and George Dunn and family of Alma Center; Mr. and Mrs. Pete Breitenbach and J. Radke, Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Henderson and Mrs. Held of Alma Center; Mrs. John Iverson and Thelma Gregory of Colbumia.
Mrs. Gregory was buried in Alma Center beside her sister.
Funeral services were held at the home in Humbird Sunday afternoon September 20, at 2 p.m., Rev. G. W. Longenecker of the Congregational Church of Neillsville, officiating. Three ladies from Merrillan furnished the music. The undertaker was Mr. Rickert of Merrillan.
