Strasser, Dorothea Joyce (Calley) (23 OCT 1931 - 20 MOV 2018)
Dorothea Joyce Strasser, 87, died on Nov. 20, 2018, in West Palm Beach, Fla. She
had moved to Florida in 2017 to be near her son.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, at Trinity
Lutheran Church in Unity. Committal services will take place at the Colby
Cemetery.
Dorothea was born on Oct. 23, 1931, to Beatrice and David Calley in Bradley,
S.D. Her family moved to Kirksville, Mo., in 1933 and later to St. Louis, Mo.,
where she attended high school until graduation. She later graduated from
Central Methodist College in 1951 with a degree in business and chemistry, after
which she was employed by Tennessee Eastman Company in Kingsport, Tenn., and
later Chicago, Ill. On March 14, 1959, she married James Robert Strasser in
Evanston, Ill., and lived in Toledo, Ohio, and later Madison, before settling in
St. Louis, Mo.
After the death of her husband she returned to Kirksville, Mo., with her two
young sons. While there she worked for nine years as a school secretary, nine
years with Farm Credit Services and later seven years with Allied Dairy Services
until her retirement in 1997. She was a member of the first United Methodist
Church of Kirksville. She was very devoted to her community, her two children,
grandchildren and her extended family.
She is survived by two sons: John Robert Strasser and his husband, Franck
Meunier, of Delray Beach, Fla., (recently Madison) and David Bruce Strasser and
his wife, Theresa, of Freeport, Ill., and their four children, Kyle, Cody,
Brielle and Haley, all of Freeport, Ill. Also surviving are two brothers: David
and his wife Janice of Colby, Wis./Texas and Herbert of Granite Falls, Minn.;
her brother-in-law, Jack and his wife, Barbara, of Fort Worth, Texas; as well as
many nieces and nephews.
Her husband preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 1972. Also preceding her in death
were her parents, her husband’s parents her sister in law, two nephews and one
niece.
