Wilde, Eugene R. (20 MAY 1933 - 14 JUL 2019)

Eugene R. Wilde passed away peacefully at his home in Abbotsford on July 14, 2019, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care.

Gene was born on May 20, 1933, in Abbotsford, to James “Pete” and Helen (Simerson) Wilde. He served his country in the U.S. Army from Feb. 1957, until his honorable discharge in July 1963. On March 25, 1983, he married LeMay (Quammen) Olson and she survives.

Gene owned and operated Wilde Flooring and Paint Store in Colby until his retirement in 1997. Gene was a Master Painter, which included hand painting billboards. He was extremely fond of growing various types of Christmas trees on his many tree farms. He looked forward to harvesting the trees in the fall as well as the cutting of boughs for the making of roping and wreaths which was a family operation. Christmas time was a happy time around the store as families came to pick out their favorite tree and trimmings.

Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman, with duck hunting being his favorite. After retirement he enjoyed spending time at the lake with friends around the campfire and playing cards.

Gene is survived by three children from a previous marriage: Dean (Gail) Wilde of Colby, Dawn Wilde of Portland, Ore., and Donna Wilde of Minoqua; two grandchildren: Trevor Wilde of Stevens Point and Sierra Wodkoswki of Minoqua; three step-children: Roxane (Rod) Robida of Medford, Julie (Guy) Bockin of Medford and Andy Quammen of Maui, Hawaii; two step-grandchildren: Abby and Austin Robida, who reside in Minn.; and one brother, Jim Wilde of Thorp.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bob of West Bend; and one son, Scott.
There will be a private family burial at a later date.

We wish to thank Dr. Ostrander and her staff at the Marshfield Clinic Colby Center and the staff of Aspirus Comfort Care for their wonderful care.

Cremation Society of Wisconsin, Altoona, is serving the family.
