John L. Fitzl, 90, Owen, formerly of Greenwood, died on Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at the Clark County Health Care Center, where he had been a resident since December 2003. Funeral services were held on Friday, April 28, at Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood. The Rev. Teri Blomberg officiated. Pallbearers were Rick Fitzl, Brian Fitzl, Travis Fitzl, Milt Fitzl Jr., Eddie Lloyd Jr., and Dale O’Dell. Burial was at Greenwood City Cemetery with military rights performed by the Greenwood American Legion Post #238.
John Lewis Fitzl was born April 9, 1916, in Stanley, to Anton and Fern (nee Bruett) Fitzl. He attended school in Thorp. After his schooling, he worked on the falily farm. He was married on July 5, 1938, to Margaret Johnson. He served in the United States Army during World War ll, stationed in Germany. He owned and operated a carpentry business for 35 years in Greenwood. He greatly enjoyed fishing. He was a member of the Greenwood American Legion Post #238 and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Greenwood.
He will be sadly missed by his children, Milton (Fern) Fitzl, Loyal, Dick (Kathee) Fitzl, Loyal, Dennis (Joyce) Fitzl, Willard, Marjorie Rose, Greenwood, Donna (Bill) Hammond, Loyal, and Beverly (Edwin) Lloyd, Neillsville; 24 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Irene Johnson, Lake Geneva.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Margaret, on Feb. 4, 1962; two sons, Jimmy and Billy in infancy; three brothers; and three grandchildren.
Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, assisted the family with arrangements.
