Shemanski, John L. (5 July 1885 – 13 June 1975)
John L. Shemanski, 89, formerly of City Point, died June 13 in Black River Falls
Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 5, 1885, in Stevens Point to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Shemanski, and
was raised in the Stevens Point area.
He married Julia Kalina there in 1909. She died August 10, 1969.
The Shemanskis, at various times, resided in Stevens Point, Rockford, Il., and
City Point. While in Rockford Mr. Shemanski worked in various factories for a
few years; later he managed the Bissig Brothers Cranberry Marsh at City Point.
They also owned and operated a tavern at City Point for a number of years.
Mr. Shemanski had been a resident of the Pine View Home at Black River Falls
since October 3, 1967.
He was a member of the Martyr’s Chapel Catholic Church at City Point.
He is survived by a son, Bernard, of City Point; four grandchildren and three
sisters: Mrs. Bertha Roberts of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Catherine Shuda and Mrs.
Elizabeth Shebilski, both of Stevens Point.
The funeral was held Saturday morning from the Martyr’s Chapel at City Point
with the Rev. Jams Binkowski officiating. Burial was made in the City Point
Catholic Cemetery.
