Bennett, Dr. Ralph P. (1925* - 5 MAY 2019)
Dr. Ralph P. Bennett, former long-time resident of Ladysmith, passed into the
arms of his Heavenly Father on Sunday, May 5, 2019, in Connecticut, at the age
of 94.
Ralph grew up in West Bend. While enrolled at the University of Wisconsin, he
enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and served as a
navigator on a B-29 in the Pacific. In his later years, he enjoyed reminiscing
about his time in the service of his country. After the war, Ralph completed his
education at the UW medical school.
In 1948, he married Virginia Cody. They moved to Ladysmith in 1952 where he
began his general practice. Their daughters Susan, Amy and Penny were all born
and raised in Ladysmith.
The highlight of his medical career, to hear him recall, was delivering
thousands of babies at St. Mary’s Hospital and later, Rusk County Memorial
Hospital.
In 1981, Ralph married Ruth Williams. He is survived by his daughters and both
ex-wives.
Ralph loved Pulaski Lake, dogs, feeding wild birds, reading books, singing in
the choir, playing the clarinet, and watching all kinds of televised sports. He
was a life-long Cubs fan.
A private graveside service is planned for September when he will be interred
next to his parents, Ralph and Clara at Riverside Cemetery.
Donations in Ralph’s memory may be sent to Alzheimer’s Association Greater
Wisconsin, 3313 S. Packerland Avenue, Ste. E, DePere, WI 54115, or online at
