It could cost as much as $295,000 to remove and dispose of underground storage
tanks owned by Taylor County, the county board of supervisors learned last week.
According to Robert Nelson of Wisconsin Central Engineering, the county has 15
underground tanks that will have to be removed to comply with new state
regulations.
Several of the tanks that Taylor County owns - the Highway Department, airport,
etc. - have been in the ground for many years, and may have contaminated the
soil, If so, PEDFA (Petroleum Environmental Cleanup Fund Act) money is available
to help clean up the contamination.
