A proposal to install a municipal water system in the Village of Stetsonville
will go to the voters for approval next week in a special referendum election.
Fuel from a decades-old gasoline spill has contaminated several wells in the
village of approximately 400 residents and studies show the contamination plume
is spreading and could impact more wells in the village.
Stetsonville already has a municipal sewer system and the village is looking to
install a municipal water system including a well, treatment plant, tower, water
mains and water meters.
Planning for the project has been going on for some time with successful test
wells being drilled near the Stetsonville Elementary School.
