Krohn, Esther (26 NOV 1904 – 24 FEB 1971)
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 27 at St. Stephen's Lutheran
Church, Wausau, for Mrs. Ben Krohn, who died February 24, 1971 at Sunny Vale
Nursing home following a lengthy illness. Rev. Gilbert Meyer and Rev. Ervin
Sieden officiated at the services and interment was made in the Pine Grove
Cemetery, Wausau.
Mrs. Krohn, nee Esther Reimer, was born November 26, 1904, in the town of
Halsey, Marathon County, Wisconsin. She received her education in the town of
Hamburg and was married to Ben Krohn on July 2, 1927. To this union were born
three children: Mary Jean, who died in infancy; Geraldine (Mrs. Richard
Zimmerman), Mendota, Illinois; and Mary Ann (Mrs. Charles Rozzell), Alhambra,
California.
She is a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church. The Krohns were also the first
licensed foster parents in Wausau, and have over the past 27 years, been foster
parents of 60 children. The couple worked in affiliation with the Lutheran
Welfare Agency, the Catholic Social Services, and the Marathon County Welfare
Society.
Survivors include her husband, two daughters, nine grandchildren, two sisters,
Mrs. Walter Loos, Colby, and Mrs. Gene Stuempke, Elmhurst, Illinois, and one
brother, Irvin Riemer, Athens.
In addition to her infant daughter, she was preceded in death by her parents.
