Bauernfeind, John "Jack" (August 10, 1922 - February 6, 2006)

John "Jack" Bauernfeind, age 83, of Hudson died Monday February 6, 2006 at United Hospital in St. Paul. Jack was born on August 10, 1922 in Thorp, the son of John and Theresa (Eichinger) Bauernfeind. He was raised in Thorp attending St. Bernard’s Elementary School prior to graduating from Thorp High School in the class of 1941. Following this, he enlisted in the armed forces where he proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. He was stationed in Normandy, France, Rhineland, and Central Europe.

On June 29, 1946, he was united in marriage to Bertelle Badeshwiler in Minneapolis, MN. He would further his education receiving training in Dry Cleaning in Silver Springs, MD. After receiving an invitation by John Heywood (Hudson’s city attorney, he and Bertelle would open and operate Deluxe Cleaner’s in downtown Hudson. From the 1940’s to the late 1980’s, they faithfully operated the family business. When he wasn’t working, Jack thoroughly enjoyed woodworking and spending some well deserved quiet time at their family cabin on Shell Lake where he loved to fish. Earlier he was an active member of the Hudson Chamber of Commerce and was one of a few to initiate development of the original Hudson Hospital. Once built, he served as one of its first board members. He is also a member of the Knights of Columbus of St. Patrick’s Church.

Jack is preceded in death by: his wife, Bertelle, his parents, and siblings; Leon, Alvin, Dorothy, Clara, Erica, Sister Florence (Thea), and Alexis.

Jack is survived by children: John (Kathy) of Waukesha; Richard (Alison) of CA; Tim (Terri) Plymouth, MN; Mary Jo (Wayne) Ducklow of Hudson; Beth (Tom) Best of Osseo, MN; Joe (Tammy) of Woodville; 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial for Jack was 11 a.m. Friday February 10, 2006 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Hudson with Father John Parr officiating. Burial with full military honors, provided by the Hudson VFW, was in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, Hudson.
