Barkow, William A. (6 DEC 1891 – 23 FEB 1971)
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church for
William A. Barkow, 79, of route 4, Marshfield, who died Tuesday, February 23,
1971.
The Rev. Theodore Krueger, associate pastor, conducted services, and burial was
made in Hillside Cemetery.
Mr. Barkow was born December 6, 1891, in Abbotsford (Clark Co., Wis.), and was
educated at Colby, and farmed with his father.
Following his marriage in Athens June 28, 1916, to Mary Stangle. The couple
lived at Athens for 25 years.
Mr. Barkow was employed as a mill hand and then became owner and operator of a
tavern and dance hall. From 1941 until 1948 the couple farmed at Loyal (Clark
Co.), and then moved to the Marshfield area, where they also farmed. The
celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1966. Mrs. Barkow died October 7,
1968.
Survivors include two sons, Orville Barkow of Abbotsford and Elmer Barkow of
route 3, Marshfield; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and a
brother, Bernard Barkow, Athens.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Barkow was preceded in death by two sisters and a
grandchild.
